Olifantsfontein SAPS recovered a hijacked truck and stolen goods in Clayville West on October 5 at about 9.30 pm.
Ekurhuleni North Cluster communications officer, Constable Patricia Mgijima, said the police received a complaint from a community member about a possible house break-in that was in progress in Smith Street, Clayville West.
“On arrival, the police found an EMPD vehicle that was monitoring the situation outside the yard. According to the metro police, they had received a possible hijacked truck signal which ended in that area.
“The police then approached the house in Smith Street where they noticed a lady who was sweeping towards the gate, Immediately, when she saw the police, she dropped the broom and casually walked out leaving a 5-year-old boy in the house,” said Mgijima.
Mgijima added on further investigation police noticed that the same lady was sweeping the tyre tracks of the truck.
“In the yard, there was a charcoal Mitsubishi SUV with a jammer inside. In the outside rooms gallons of diesel, loose number plates, identity books, cellphone covers and boxes presumably offloaded from the hijacked truck. It was later ascertained that the truck was indeed hijacked, the driver was dropped off in Mamelodi and the truck was abandoned in Tswelopele, Ivory Park,” said Mgijima.
“According to the driver he was hijacked by three men and a female who were using three vehicles and was left stranded in Mamelodi. He was set to deliver the stock in Mamelodi, then Witbank,” concludes Mgijima.
