Eagles On Fire Church honoured Thuthuka Primary School’s outstanding learners for their hard work on November 24.
Church leader and senior pastor Emmanuel Popela said the awards ceremony went well this year. He added that the church was thankful for its partnership with the school.
“We have committed ourselves to making this an annual event.
“This is our second edition and we have improved drastically in terms of the logistics and planning.
“It was even better and bigger this year,” said Popela.
He said last year they honoured just more than 100 learners, while this year they honoured 142 learners.
Popela believes that as time goes on, more surrounding schools will become part of the initiative.
“We also want to give bursaries to our children.
“That is the growth we are looking forward to in the coming years.
“We are planning to also give school uniforms and school shoes to needy children,” said Popela.
He added that the church has devised a programme for 2019 where children can come for extra classes to improve their performance in their school subjects.
“We have tutors who will assist them from the church.
“The tutors will also give them spiritual counselling and support in all other forms.
“We are available for the schools and promise to be there for them.”
Thuthuka Primary School principal Moses Mokoena said they were grateful to the church for keeping its promise of honouring the school’s outstanding learners each year.
“The church has made a commitment to sustain the relationship between them and the school. “Indeed, the promise has been kept for the benefit of our learners,” said Mokoena.
