As a result of increased generation plants being out for planned maintenance as well as unplanned outages, Stage 1 rotational load shedding had been implemented by Eskom at noon.
It is expected to continue until 10pm on Thursday night.
Stage 1 rotational load shedding requires 1000MW to be shedded nationwide. Load shedding is conducted as a measure of last resort to protect the power system from a total collapse or blackout.

We encourage residents and businesses to use electricity sparingly to ease the demand of electricity. Please switch off geysers as well as all non-essential lighting and electricity appliances to assist in reducing demand.
Eskom will provide regular updates on the status of the power system through all its media platforms.

Besides the high unplanned outages [breakdowns], Eskom is also investigating the cause of the collapse of the powerlines that carry imports from Cahora Bassa in Mozambique. As a result of the damaged lines, imports have been reduced to about 400MW, down from the usual 1500MW. pic.twitter.com/PFMvFFXrjg
