Hard work paid off for four Tembisa learners from HM High Density Academy when their institution awarded them a bursary for a full year of study on November 25.
The Directors Bursary Awards were handed over at Rabasotho Community Hall during the school’s end-of-year graduation and awards gala.
The top four learners were Grade 11 learner Mandisa Matolengwe, Grade Seven learner Sinah Kobela Maponya, Grade Four learner Oratile Mabina and Grade Three learner Katlego Motsweni.
Mandisa scooped the highest marks in the FET phase, Sinah was the top achiever in the Senior phase and Oratile was the best in the Intermediate phase. Katlego narrowly snatched the best spot in the Foundation phase away from his fierce rival and classmate, Katlego Motloutsi.
The four learners were the first ever to receive the Directors Bursary Award.
“I am so thrilled to have won this amazing award. It is the first time for our school’s directors to present this splendid award to their learners, and it is more than thrilling to be among the first four learners to have won. I promise the best performance in my matric results next year,” said Mandisa, who went home with five awards.
Sinah swept seven awards from the nine subjects she took in Grade Seven. Speaking on behalf of the parents of the four outstanding learners, her mother, Jacqueline Maponya, was all smiles and grateful to the institution for the prize.

“How I wish all the schools in Tembisa were awarding learners in a similar manner. This will definitely motivate all learners to work extra hard while parents regulate the studying times of their children,” said Maponya.
Max Mpotazingwe, the academic director and principal at HM High Density Academy, emphasised the importance of hard work and pledged to continue rewarding the hard-working learners through this new award.
“Expect more great things to be awarded to those learners who really spend most of their time studying and working very hard in the forthcoming 2019 academic year. We will try our level best to get stakeholders who can partner with us in rewarding the best learners in Tembisa, not only at HM High Density Academy,” said Mpotazingwe.
The event was graced by Andrew Modise, a business mogul in the mining industry, who urged Tembisa parents to invest their time in the academic progress of their children.
“Listen here mommy, and listen here daddy, if you want your children to make it in life then you must see to it that they are studying thoroughly and that they are the most disciplined children academically.
“Please be there for your child and support him or her all the time. Provide resources for your child and never allow your child to undermine teachers,” advised Modise.
The bursaries will cover the costs of the winners’ education at HM High Density Academy from January to December 2019.
HM High Density Academy is a fully registered combined institution with the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE). Its GDE registration number is 700400931 and it offers tuition from Grade R to Grade 12.
