Five speedsters arrested on Duvenhage Street in Edleen

The speedsters were caught travelling towards the circle on Green Avenue.

Five speeding drivers, one on a Harley Davidson, were arrested on Duvenhage Street in Edleen on Wednesday morning.

All of them recorded speeds of 99km/h to 114km/h on this 60km/h stretch of road.

According to Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the metro police, the EMPD high-speed unit conducted the operation between 5am and 10am, following complaints of reckless driving in the mornings.

The speedsters were caught travelling towards the circle on Green Avenue.

A 26-year-old Harley Davidson male biker was arrested at 9.46am doing 114km/h. He claimed he was dashing to assist a girlfriend.

A Toyota taxi driver (29) advanced the reason that he was rushing to pick up children. He was caught doing 101km/h at 6.01am.

The rest of the arrestees were all males aged 30, 45 and 52 in sedans caught doing 113, 109 and 99km/h respectively.

The arrested speedsters were detained at Norkem Park Police Station on charges of reckless and negligent driving. They were all later released on bail of R1 000 each.
