Streets abuzz with Christmas drive

The drive saw children in Birchleigh and Norkem Park get sweet packets.

Close to 2 000 sweet packets were handed out to children during Norkem Park CPF Sector Two’s Christmas Drive on December 8.

The CPF and residents gathered on Bafadi Street in Norkem Park and then split into six groups to deliver the gifts to children in Norkem Park and Birchleigh.

Each group had a driver, Santa and helpers who planned their own routes with the help of patrollers who knew each area.

“We managed to put together and deliver just under 2 000 sweet packets which was an amazing experience,” said Anette Niemand, NPCPF Sector Two’s events coordinator.

“The sweets were donated by community members and security companies we usually work with.”

Members from Alpha Security, MML Security, Sec Pros Security and ER24 were also present at the event. They were part of the drive throughout and helped control traffic as the groups made their way through the suburbs.

It took Niemand two and a half weeks to plan the drive but one thing that she couldn’t have possibly planned was the rain which halted the drive later in the evening.

The one thing the rain didn’t bring a stop to was the spirit of the members.

“We continued on Sunday and it was just as special,” explained Niemand.

“The drive was a success and it has become such a big event from the time it was started. It started as something small by CPF members Dorothy and David Davel and it has grown over the years to be this big event.

“Without the community, CPF members, security companies, ER24, family and friends, this event wouldn’t have been possible. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.”
