Residents living along Zuurfontein Road had been battling for years now for a fence along the road to prevent vehicles from crashing into their properties.
This had been to no avail so far and on November 15, during wet weather, an 18-wheeler trucked jack-knifed and went through the wall of the church on the corner of Zuurfontein Road and Parkland Drive.

“Had it happened 20 metres sooner, there would have been major damage to residential houses and possible injuries,” one concerned resident said.
“I once again appeal to Ekurhuleni to urgently erect a fence and barriers to prevent serious damage and injury. Are you going to wait until there is a fatality before you are going to do something?” he asked.
In November last year a huge truck careered off the road, through a fence and into a house, causing structural damage.

Ward councillor Tracey Lourenco said the fence had been on her IDP list as a top five priority for a number of years now.
“This fence is critical for the protection of school children who walk to school on this very busy road with heavy and fast moving traffic and large trucks. Not to mention the taxis that do as they please.”
Kempton Express is waiting for comment from the metro.
