EMPD swoops down on problematic spots in Kempton

The special operation started at 6am and ended at 6pm as part of a crime prevention drive and enforcement of by-laws

More than 100 officers from Ekurhuleni Metro Police, as well as traffic wardens, descended on Kempton Park in a 12-hour blitz on Friday, December 21.

The special operation started at 6am and ended at 6pm as part of a crime prevention drive and enforcement of by-laws. Two suspects were arrested for possession of Cat, 19 vehicles were impounded, several illegal hawker structures were removed and over 90 fines were  issued, said Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD.

In stop-and-search actions, 235 vehicles were attended to and 83 pedestrians frisked in various problematic locations in Kempton Park. Two pedestrians were arrested on Long and Greyilla streets when found in possession of 10 Ziplock bags of Cat.

On West Street and Central Avenue 11 illegal traders were removed and numerous illegal cigarettes, sweets, clothing and belts were confiscated in an effort to clean up the sidewalks.

Nineteen illegally parked vehicles were towed away from Pretoria, Central, Long, Bosch, Willow and Gladiator and Park streets.

Kgasago said when reports of a house robbery in Rhodesfield were received where goods worth over R50 000 were taken, the metro police made a great effort to try to trace the perpetrators via the cellphones stolen but to no avail.

The trail first led the metro police to Bonaero Park and thereafter to Wes and Oak streets but unfortunately the signal died. In-depth investigations are underway to apprehend the four suspects involved.
