Residents across Terenure have had to make do with little or no running water for at least three months.
The residents claim this is due to a continuing lack of water pressure in the area.
According to ward councillor Tracey Lourenco, a contractor has been identified by the council to address the issue but the problem is difficult to find,” she said.
Lourenco believes the issue is due to a lack of maintenance on the existing infrastructure. “So far they’ve only done patchwork and repairs, it’s time for larger sections to be upgraded.”
A visit to resident Lindsey Greer (69)’s home on December 20 saw a small stream of water running from her kitchen tap. When she opened the hot water tap in her bathroom, however, there was nothing.
“I can no longer shower in my own home,” Greer told Express, who now visits friends in Edenvale or Modderfontein to take a shower. “It’s not nice knocking on someone’s door for a shower.”
This resident is not alone in her water woes. Mark Theunissen said water pressure had always been an issue in Terenure but that it got worse three months ago.
“One load of washing can take up to two hours, never mind running a bath,” Theunissen said. On a community WhatsApp group, he found at least 10 more complainants.

Both Greer and Theunissen felt the lack of water in the area should not be an issue. “I want to be able to have water, it’s a service I pay for,” Greer said.
Theunissen is at such a wits end that he’s considering installing a booster pump on his property, which will be no cheap task.
Lourenco added that the issue had been escalated to the divisional head of water for Ekurhuleni.
The metro has not yet replied to Kempton Express’ queries.
