Edleen dad dies 12 days after Isando Road accident

A 32-year-old Edleen father died on Wednesday, 12 days after being critically injured in a motorcycle accident at road works on Isando Road.
TC Frankenberg rode into a sand bank around midnight on December 14 on his way home from his parents’ house in Primrose.
A wall of sand blocked the roadway after the metro repaired a water leak months ago. Frankenberg did not see the sand bank because of poor visibility and no warning signs on the road.

“On numerous occasions, I have requested action to take place on this road. On August 30, I sent an email to the roads department, demanding urgent intervention,” said ward councillor Simon Lapping after the accident.
Lapping told Express on Thursday morning that the road had since been repaired.
“I made it very clear to the metro that the contractor could forget about leave as I demanded that the road be open to traffic before Christmas. They seemed to have got their act into gear and completed the road on December 23. It was then opened to traffic as the contractor worked flat out to ensure it was done,” Lapping said.
“The basic issue is that safety mechanisms were not put in place during the construction period. I requested the electricity department to repair the traffic light and street. Lights to help with warning and lighting. This request was ignored.
“Generally a very poor show by those involved and there needs to be people held to account for this. During this period of construction there have been about 15 accidents which could have been avoided.”
