Windsor House ‘shocked’ at 75% matric pass rate

Twelve learners wrote the final exams and three of them failed

After 18 consecutive years of achieving a 100% matric pass rate, Windsor House Academy’s class of 2018 only managed a 75% pass rate.

Twelve learners wrote the final exams and three failed, which resulted in the drop in the pass rate.

The 2018 matric results were a shock to the whole school.

“Everybody was shocked with the results, including learners in other grades,” said Mariette van Heerden, the school’s principal.

“We saw that some battled during the prelims but we thought they would pick up and make it.”

Another knock was the number of distinctions the school achieved.

“We only have one distinction from Tiara Pontes who received a distinction in life orientation,” said Faith Mntambo, the school’s deputy principal.

“Our university exemption is 25%. We are both shocked and sad about the 2018 results but we wish them all the best going forward. We will work for better results for 2019.”

Van Heerden agreed with Mntambo regarding the 2019 results saying: “Hard work and discipline are among the priorities for this year’s matriculants,” said Van Heerden.
