Space Age Independent School honoured its excelling learners both in primary and high school.
Co-director and executive principal of the school Lenny Naidoo said the event was staged over two days on January 18 and 19.
“This was a very special day in the life of Space Age Independent School. We said thank you and congratulations to our Grade 12 learners. This is our first group of matriculants and we ended up with an 88 per cent pass rate.
“We are proud of the achievement of our learners,” said Naidoo.
He also thanked the teachers and head of department who worked hard in achieving the top pass rate.

“We felt the learners who finished Grade 12 at our school, coming from a disadvantaged background, have shown the background from which they come is not a deterrent for them to do well.
“The field is level when you come to Grade 12. If you put in hard work and work smart you can challenge the best in the country. We believe as a result of this our next group of learners in 2019 will use this as a bench mark to give us a 100 per cent pass rate,” Naidoo said.
He said their 2019 learners have signed a pledge to say they will work toward a 100 per cent pass rate.
“Once you have a bachelor’s pass the door is open, you can go to university and choose the career of your choice. Most of these children’s parents earn less than R350 000 a year, so all of them would qualify for a bursary,” Naidoo added.
He hoped, with the quality of education Space Age Independent School is giving to the learners, the children will come back from universities to improve the life in their disadvantaged communities.
