Wounded suspect seeking medical help arrested at Tembisa Hospital

The arrested suspect will appear in Tembisa Magistrate's Court once he has been discharged from hospital

A 30-year-old male has been arrested at Tembisa Hospital on March 3 for a business robbery committed on the same day in Winnie Mandela Zone Four.

Const Patricia Mgijima, communications officer at Tembisa SAPS, said the complainant was asleep in his rented room in Winnie Mandela Zone Four when he was woken up by people walking on the roof. Suddenly, the suspects started cutting the corrugated iron, but could not enter from the roof as there is burglar proofing. The suspects then proceeded to the next room, which is the tuck shop, and managed to enter through the roof.

“While in the tuckshop, they broke through the wall of his room to gain entry. Two suspects, both armed, entered his room and assaulted him with the butt of a firearm. They demanded cash and the victim gave them an undisclosed amount of cash. They also took his Samsung J5 cellphone and different cellphone network airtime vouchers.

“Patrolling police received the complaint and on their arrival, the suspects were on the roof. The suspects pointed their firearms at the police, but the police fired shots. The suspects ran away,” said Mgijima.

“A 30-year-old suspect was later arrested at Tembisa Hospital on the same day of robbery when being treated for a gunshot wound. He was positively identified as one of the robbers.

“The arrested suspect will appear in Tembisa Magistrate’s Court once he has been discharged from hospital,” said Mgijima.
