Muggings reported at Oakmoor Railway Station

The unit's presence had a positive impact as no serious incidents were reported.

In a crime prevention and general law enforcement drive aimed at making Easter holidays safer for all in the city, EMPD specialised units, comprising Public Order Policing, K9, SWAT, Equestrian and First Responder, targeted problematic areas.

Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago said reports of muggings around Oakmoor Railway Station were received. The location was saturated from Wednesday night through Thursday and into Saturday night.

The reports indicated that commuters alighting from trains and taxis were mugged at the station. It prompted the EMPD to deploy the first responder unit in a highly visible fashion on Wednesday, April 17 between 2pm and 5pm.

The unit’s presence had a positive impact as no serious incidents were reported.
