EMPD member fined R200 for illegal parking outside Kempton headquarters

'Maybe his position has gone to his head,' a community member said.

Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) proved that the rules of the road should apply to everyone after one of its own was issued with a fine for parking illegally outside their office on Long Street.

“Maybe his position has gone to his head,” said a community member, who reported the bakkie parked on a yellow line and sidewalk.

“It must be nice to have such power,” the man, who wished to remain anonymous, added.

Kobeli Mokheseng, spokesperson for the EMPD, confirmed that the bakkie was an official EMPD vehicle and was used by a loss control and investigation unit supervisor.

“The EMPD member was instructed to park legally before he was issued with a R200 fine for disobeying the no-parking line markings,” Mokheseng said.
