Over 30 000 caught on static speed cameras in Ekurhuleni over Easter
The metro police also arrested 108 drunk drivers.

Speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol were two major issues the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) had to deal with over the Easter weekend.
Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago said 108 drunk drivers were arrested, while 53 ended up behind bars for excessive speeding.
A further 218 were fined for driving over the speed limit, with more than 30 000 motorists caught on static speed cameras, said Kgasago.
The long weekend operations started on Thursday afternoon and ended on Monday.
Fifty-nine drivers were arrested for drinking and driving in the EMPD Eastern Operational Region (Springs, Benoni, Brakpan, Nigel and Kwatsaduza), 23 in the Southern Region (Alberton, Germiston, Boksburg and Khatorus), and 26 in the Northern Region (Kempton Park, Edenvale and Tembisa).
