Man dies in R21 accident after ramming into stationary vehicle

On impact, the Polo driver was thrown from the car

A man died and three others were injured in an accident on the R21 north between Olifantsfontein Road and Nellmapius Drive on Thursday evening at around 7pm.

“Investigations suggest that the driver of a VW Polo rammed into the back of a light delivery vehicle parked on the shoulder of the freeway,” said Kobeli Mokheseng, spokesperson for the metro police.

According to him, the delivery vehicle was off-loading passengers when the accident happened.

Sec Pros Security paramedic Riëtte du Plessis confirmed the Polo driver died on the scene.

“On impact, he was  thrown from the car,” she told Express.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said the Polo driver sustained fatal chest and head injuries, while three passengers in the stationary delivery vehicle suffered moderate injuries.

Du Plessis said the scene was cleared at around 9.15pm.
