Ivory Park residents taught how to use social media

Digital Skills Empowerment workshop at Ivory Park North Hall to empower entrepreneurs.

On April 24 Google digital skills for Africa hosted a digital skills development empower workshop at Ivory Park community north hall.

The event aimed at empowering and educating small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs on how to have an online presence.

The workshop was hosted by Amanda Nomnqa and Sipho Khoza. Those in attendance were taught how to use social media as a way of branding, marketing, and advertising and what to put on their pages and websites.

Drinks and snacks were offered after the event for those who attended.

Amanda Nomnqa said the ‘Google digital skills for Africa’ is an initiative by Google to help build and equip job seekers and small businesses.

“The digital skills and training team help to develop the digital and information literacy, desktop and IT productivity skills of university staff and students to help them work, research and study more effectively,” said Nomnqa.

“The right people attended the event and it was a successful event. We had great feedback from the audience and the questions asked showed us that people are interested in what we were doing,” explained Nomnqa.

Busi Mhlanga said it is easy to empower someone to grow within the community rather than simply offering him a job.

“Others might not know how to operate Microsoft Word or Excel or even how to write a CV, and this workshop was ideal for helping people with that,” said Mhlanga.

Nonmqa is looking at empowering and inspiring many more people who need knowledge about digital skills. If you are interested in this training, send an email to Amanda.nomnqa@gmail.com
