Libson Chuma, Tembisa’s legendary tailor, dies at age 98
The burial will take place on May 4
Tembisa’s legendary tailor, Libson Chuma, died at the age of 98 on April 25.
Chuma, born in March 1921, was a die-hard Orlando Pirates Football Club supporter who lived at 584 Makhulong Section.
Family spokesperson Colin Ngwenya said there is an African proverb that goes, “The sound of a falling tree is greater than the sound of a growing forest”, and that Chuma was like that falling tree.
“He was a well-known tailor whose craft saw many of his clients coming for designer suits, thus turning his house into a hive of activity. He was a man with a big heart, humble, always in high spirits, even on his sick bed, to everyone he interacted with,” said Ngwenya.
“What was remarkable about Chuma was his excellent health late into his 90s. He could sustain an insightful conversation, walk unaided and never wore glasses, because he had good eyesight.”
“Tembisa has lost a father, a grandfather and a great-grandfather. He will be sorely missed by his loving family and friends,” said Ngwenya.
The burial will take place on May 4. The service will start at 8am at 584 Makhulong Section, Tembisa. The departure time to the cemetery will be at 10am. For more information, contact Colin or Fairy Ngwenya on 083 2295 605 or 082 689 6005, respectively.
