On June 6, Phakisa Holdings Group donated four brand new Dell laptops to Winnie Mandela Secondary School after the school requested to be assisted with new devices for administrative purposes.
Jack Moleke, chairperson of the school governing body, alongside the school principal and deputy principals, accepted the donation made by advocate Msuthu Matshani, CEO of Phakisa Holdings Group, and Deon Voges, Phakisa Holdings Group operational manager.
Eddie Kekana, Winnie Mandela Secondary School principal, said they are grateful to Phakisa for coming to their rescue in such a short period of time.
“The laptops were requested by the school for administration purposes because we were still using the first devices the school started operating with in 2013 and they are outdated,” said Kekana.
“It is not the first time they have helped us. They are like family now. Last year when we hosted the Secondary School Improvement Programme (SSIP), they sponsored us with lunch for the learners and that helped us as a school because our matric pass rate improved from 69.4 per cent to 82.4 per cent,” said Kekana.
“As Phakisa, we have made it our task to contribute back to our community as every community has a parent who is linked to the company somehow,” said Matshani.
“We donated the laptops through our Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiative programme and when they called, we had to prioritise them because we are looking forward to work closely with the school and expand our partnership.
“We have been running many CSI programmes around the country, but we still have a lot to accomplish at the school.
“We have a gardening facility to look into and the upgrading of the principal offices and the boardroom,” added Matshani.
