Bertharry English Private School, in Tembisa, opened a new block of class rooms on August 16.
Deputy principal Harris Mtamathumba said they are very privileged to have the new class rooms for the primary school section.
“It has been long coming, which is why we are so excited. We saw that the number of learners enrolling at the school was soaring. Even government schools cannot manage to accommodate all the learners residing in the Tembisa community. And that challenge also affects us as there is congestion within our school,” Mtamathumba explained.
He said the development will ease the problem of accommodation at Bertharry English Private School.
Mtamathumba said all stakeholders are proud of the beautiful state-of-the-art classrooms.
Sebushi Maponya, circuit manager in the education department at the Ekurhuleni north district, said as a department they are excited about the opening of new class rooms and toilets in the school.

“The structure is of good quality and engineers have been involved in the building of the structure. The engineers went out of their way to ensure that they put up a proper structure to support the education of our learners. The school will open more class rooms in the near future,” said Maponya.
He said learners and the community have the responsibility of taking care of the building and protecting it from criminal break-ins.
Bertharry English Private School principal Harry Kumwenda attributed the school’s growth to hard work and the good performance of the school’s matric classes.
“I am quite excited looking back from where we came from as a school, this is a big growth. It is the almighty God who has put us where we are. I am happy that I have been able to oversee this institution’s growth,” said Kumwenda.
Ward 7 councillor Thabang Jiyane also expressed gratitude on behalf of the African National Congress.
“I am highly impressed with the leadership of the school since its inception when the management ran the school from a church. I appreciate the management’s hard work because today they have managed to ensure the complete school that we see now,” said Jiyane.
He said he is also pleased that the school will introduce African languages from next year.
A parent of one of the school’s learners, Phindile Dimane, said the initiative shows that there’s big progress in the development of the school.
“The four new class rooms will assist in educating our children in the school. I encourage the school’s management to keep up the good work,” said Dimane.
She said the new toilets will definitely give dignity to learners attending the school.
