Atlas Combined School hosts talent show

Talent events at Atlas Combined School.

Ivory Park-based private school Atlas Combined School hosted Mr and Miss Atlas Talent show, a fund-raising event on October 4. The event aimed to raise funds for the school and to build new classes by at least 2020.

The talent show also aimed at showcasing the learners’ talent, from dance, drama, poetry to music. Fellow learners and school staff, including the school director, Nosizwe Atalia Moyo, showed support to the performers.

Moyo said the event focused on helping learners improve their confidence.

“We wanted the learners to be out of their comfort zones and show us what they got. We want to embrace and encourage their talent and abilities.

“In most cases, you find most learners hiding in the crowd, hence we randomly picked learners to participate on stage,” said Moyo.

The overall male winners were announced on Monday and crowned.

The primary school division winners were: Junior Mugiswe, Grade Four (Mr Atlas Talent Junior), Lwandle Ndlangamandla, Grade Three (first prince), Kgotso Manaka, Grade Five (second prince) and Mr personality was Nokhwepfeka Siviwe.

The ladies were: Ntsako Khoza, Grade Six (Miss Atlas Talent Junior), Nokubonga Khumalo, Grade Four (first princess), Simphiwe Mapanga, Grade Four (second princess) and Tebogo Leopeng, Grade Seven (Miss Personality).

The high school division male winners were: Theo Selemo (Mr Atlas Talent Senior) Grade 10, Innocent Mothiba (first prince) Grade 10, Dean Ntlemo (second prince) Grade 9 and Katlego Sekhoto (Mr Personality) Grade 10.

The ladies were: Kimberley Chokowa (Miss Atlas Talent Senior) Grade Nine, Thembelihle Mthiya (first princess) Grade Eight, Regina Maphosa (second princess) Grade 11 and Kgomotso Silima (Miss Personality) Grade 10.

Dudrah Moyo, residential director of Atlas Combined School, also commented on the event. She said the most exciting thing to watch was the ballroom dance.

“We had a variety of learners on stage, but for me the ballroom dance stood out simply because it is something new and something we do not usually see in the townships,” said Dudrah Moyo.
