Resident writes poem about our refuse (non)-removal

Residents' frustrations at a high as metro battles on

Barbara Hayman has written a poem to say how tired she is of the complete lack of municipal services regarding the removal of refuse.

“It’s been almost three weeks since our last collection and the rubbish just keeps piling up daily.”

David Hartslief from Edleen on Thursday said: “For the second consecutive week the refuse removal vans have emptied wheelie bins in Green Avenue but have inexplicably bypassed Granaat Street between Green and Duvenage streets. This has resulted in a five-week backlog of uncollected refuse.

“Not only is this accumulation over extending storage space, but is now also a health hazard.”

Refuse removal in especially Birch Acres has also reached critical levels.

According to Elsie Kotze from Birch Acres, since the beginning of July, there have been 23 Thursday collection days scheduled for Birch Acres. Only on six of the 23 days refuse was removed on schedule.
