Esther Park author writes about the hidden mystery of talent
Not everyone can write a good book and not every story is good to be told, but it is told anyway
Seven years ago, Esther Park author Lesiba Mokebe was searching for inspiration for his first book. He then discovered that talent is praised by many but others hadn’t yet discovered theirs.In his first book, Talent, he defines what talent means and how it functions.
“My quirk is writing about simple things that people think they know, only to realise they don’t. It is then that they become interested to know more,” said Mokebe.
He said his source of inspiration is God, adding that writing is a gift from Him. The author is also inspired by spiritual books, the Bible, the dictionary, psychology, philosophy books and biographies of sports legends.
“I was not sure exactly what I wanted to be when I was young, but I have always had the love of books. I saw myself studying towards a doctorate without figuring out which course or faculty, and writing books was part of that.
“Writing is a talent, a gift from God. It is better to realise which area you are gifted in. Not all writers can be journalists or creative writers, storytellers or teachers. Find your lane first and be the best you can be.
“The time I became aware of my ability to write was when I became honest about my capacity.
“I have written and published Talent. I am busy writing four books, and the one I will publish next is my favourite,” said Mokebe.
The 37-year-old stated that writing creates confidence, but one should not be arrogant but learn to respect other people’s craft and expertise. He also realised that the more he wrote, the more ideas kept on coming, but if he didn’t write, he easily lost the ideas he had.
“Writing a chapter, I have to be calm and in a quiet place. I have to plan it but sometimes I don’t have time or space to do so. I will get a journal and write whatever comes to my head, but ensure that the final result of the chapter is good,” said Mokebe.
The husband and father of two mentioned that not everyone can write a good book and not every story is good to be told, but it is told anyway. People who are inspired should never let others discourage them.
“If you are thinking of writing a book one day, someone somewhere will be encouraged and learn from you. So, start writing now,” said Mokebe.
