Tembisa parents flock to schools to find space for Grade 1s

Learners struggle to find space at primary schools.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is currently finishing all admissions appeals and responses will reach parents soon.

Parents were spotted at several school gates waiting with their children looking for space at respective schools. The Tembisan chatted to an Ivory Park school principal, Mandla Sibanyoni, about the late applicants.

Sibanyoni said the late online applications for Grade Ones opened on January 15 and will run till the end of the month.

“Parents will continue to flock to schools looking to enrol their children at respective schools around Tembisa and Ivory Park. We request parents to always keep their login details in check, including their reference numbers.”

He continued to say parents who are looking to enrol their children between Grade Two and Grade Seven will have the chance at registration centres. Such centres will be at Bonwelong Primary School throughout the January period.

“At Mikateka Primary the only Grade Two to Grade Seven learners to be admitted are those who will be filling the spaces of those learners who requested transfers,” said Sibanyoni.

“Once there is no more space, we will be referring all parents to Bonwelong registration centres where they will be assisted in finding placement,” said Sibanyoni.
