No fatalities were recorded in Tembisa during the festive season, but 55 drivers were nabbed for drinking and driving. None of the recorded accidents resulted in death.

However, these accidents which occurred in Winnie Mandela, Rabie Ridge, Olifantsfontein and Ivory Park were serious.

Kobeli Mokheseng, EMPD spokesperson, said the high visibility patrols, stop-and-searches and sporadic roadside checks yielded a total of 55 drivers arrested for drinking and driving, 48 in Tembisa, one in Rabie Ridge and six in Ivory Park.

“As many as 2 542 traffic fines were issued to offenders in Tembisa and Winnie Mandela. Seven reported stolen or robbed vehicles were recovered in Ivory Park, Tembisa, Olifantsfontein and Rabie Ridge. All recovered vehicles were impounded and taken to Van Ryn Deep in Benoni for safe keeping,” said Mokheseng.
