SAPS calls meeting with scrap dealers to address cable theft
Kempton Park SAPS appeals to scrap metal dealers to attend the public meeting
Kempton Park SAPS will host a meeting with scrap metal dealers on January 25 to discuss the Criminal Amendment Act 18 of 2015.
This act addresses theft of cables and aluminium and also deals with damage to infrastructure caused by cable theft.
Capt Shadrack Magcuntsu from Kempton SAPS said cable theft was a serious problem in Pomona and Bredell.
Magcuntsu said he personally hand-delivered invitation letters to local scrap metal dealers and hopes the article will also raise awareness.
“All scrap metal dealers in Kempton Park are welcome to attend, especially those in Pomona and Bredell.
“Kempton Park SAPS has partnered with a group of attorneys who will discuss the act and its implications when convicted of being in possession of stolen copper/cables.”
The meeting will be held at the Aviation Hotel in Kempton Park at 9am. For more information, call Magcuntsu on 082 758 2061.
