Fifty-five Tembisa motorists arrested since the launch of road-safety campaign
Road safety campaign a massive success.
Fifty-five drivers have been arrested and charged for driving under the influence to date, since the City of Ekurhuleni’s road-safety drive kicked off in December 2019.
The safety campaign is scheduled to officially come to an end on January 31.
Updating this paper about this campaign, the EMPD spokesperson, Kobeli Mokheseng, said the campaign has had a huge impact and yielded positive results.
“None of the crashes or accidents that occurred in the Tembisa area including Winnie Mandela, Rabie Ridge, Olifantsfontein and Ivory Park, were serious enough to cause death to those involved.
“The high visibility patrols, stop-and-searches and sporadic roadside checks yielded a total of 55 drivers on drinking and driving charges,” he said.
He said a further 2 542 traffic fines were issued to offenders in Tembisa and Winnie Mandela.
“On top of these, seven reported stolen/robbed motor vehicles were recovered in Ivory Park, Tembisa, Olifantsfontein and Rabie Ridge. All recovered motor vehicles were impounded and taken to Van Ryn’s Deep, in Benoni, for safe keeping,” said Kobeli.
He said police visibility also play a huge role in ensuring that motorists adhere to the rules of the road at all times.
He warned that they will continue with similar campaigns and visibility and warned motorists to always adhere to the rules and be tolerant on the road.
