Bus driver killed after slamming into truck on N3 Germiston

Four lanes of the freeway were affected and had to be closed for the duration of the operation

A bus driver was killed when he crashed into a stationary truck on the N3 southbound before the N17 split in Germiston on Friday at 9.30pm.

William Ntladi, spokesperson for Ekurhuleni emergency services, said the bus was empty at the time of the accident.

“He was supposed to pick up passengers in Germiston city centre, headed for Marble-Hall in Limpopo. He was declared deceased by paramedics after suffering poly trauma injuries crashing into the truck from behind, which was loading a huge container.”

Rescue teams from Germiston central fire station used the jaws-of-life to recover the body from behind the steering wheel. The truck driver escaped unharmed.

Four lanes of the freeway were affected and had to be closed for the duration of the operation, leaving only one lane for traffic.

The scene was handed over to City of Ekurhuleni traffic officers who conducted investigations.
