ANC stalwart Comrade Greg dies after illness

Struggle veteran to be given dignified send-off.

The late ANC ward 89 councillor, Gregory Malebo, fondly known in the community as Comrade Greg, died last Thursday after a battle with an undisclosed illness.

He will be laid to rest on Saturday.

The ANC chief whip at the City of Ekurhuleni, Clr Jongizizwe Dlabathi, described Malebo as a dedicated servant of the people.

“He dedicated his entire life serving the community of Ekurhuleni. He was a genuine and true servant of the people,” he said.

Dlabathi added that Comrade Greg contributed immensely in the liberation struggle of the country since he was involved in various structures of the Mass Democratic Movement (MDM).

“He joined the struggle for liberation at the time when it was not favourable to do so. He belonged to the fearless generation of activists who were prepared to pay the ultimate price in pursuit of the liberation of our country.

“The principle of telling this history of our fallen soldier is paramount. This is because such giants are a rare breed. “The community of Ekurhuleni, especially in Tembisa, will forever be grateful for his role as a founding member of the local civic movement. The community continues to enjoy the benefits of the existence of such a movement,” he said.

“The ANC Ekurhuleni Caucus wishes to convey its deepest condolences to his family, friends and the entire community of Ekurhuleni. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Malebo family during this difficult and trying time,” he concluded.

Malebo’s funeral service begins at 8am at the Rabasotho Community Hall.
