WATCH: Driver crashes through security company’s gate

'The staff showed me the footage and I was shocked at the speed and the effect of the accident'

A private security company suffered around R40 000 damage when a bakkie ploughed into its front gate at their new offices in Edleen on Saturday morning.

The accident happened around 8.30am in wet weather.

Lionel Marks, operations director, said the accident was caught on their CCTV cameras. They moved into their new offices on Panorama Avenue in November.

“When the accident happened I was called into the office. The staff showed me the footage and I was shocked at the speed and the effect of the accident. I’m glad no one was hurt,” said Marks.

Marks said the gate would have to be replaced.

Marks said there is a bend on the road that could have led to the driver losing control.

Norkem Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Johanna Madiga said a case of reckless and negligent driving was registered.

“The driver lost control of the car because it was raining,” said Madiga.

The driver was not injured.
