African Bank adopts Winnie Mandela Primary

Tembisa-based Winnie Mandela Primary School receives donation from African Bank.

Winnie Mandela Primary School learners gathered to welcome the African Bank group and The Click Foundation for the opening of the school’s computer lab on January 31.

The CEO of African Bank, Basani Maluleke, addressed the learners shortly before the official opening of the Click Foundation Computer Lab.

African Bank handed over a cheque of R500 000 and beautiful stationery packs to the school, while the Mzansi Youth Choir also entertained the audience during the day. After the official ceremony, the learners were treated to a lunch.

Kennedy Dembetembe, senior corporate CSI manager at African Bank, said their relationship with the school began when they came to sponsor the school with cricket equipment and it grew strong after the passing of the late Winnie Mandela.

“Our relationship bloomed when we celebrated the life of the late Winnie Mandela with the school.

“The school is well behaved and well monitored, so we decided to adopt them and advance their kid’s learning process. We partnered with them and The Click Foundation,

“The Click Foundation is a Cape Town-based organisation but operates across the country, so at Winnie Mandela we came and installed computers in their computer lab to help improve their English literacy.”

The school principal, Solomon Simango, agreed that after the passing of Winnie Mandela African Bank asked for a list of things that the school needed assistance with.

“We had the computer lab as a storage room so they came and cleaned it out and installed computers for the learners, they painted and refurnished as well,

“This time, they came to show love, care and share happiness with our learners and hand over stationery and material needs of the school,” said Simango.
