Tembisa Plaza ploughs back into the community
Tembisa Plaza donates school shoes to schools in Tembisa.
Tembisa Plaza hosted a back-to-school drive on February 1.
The programme featured TV personalities from television drama Skeem Saam as well as DJ and music producer DJ Ganyani. Some young community members played at the jumping castles while selected schools came to receive school shoes on stage.
Community members also stood a chance to win R1 000 worth of vouchers when they spent R150 or more at the plaza. The prizes in total were worth R5 000.
Leemisa Tsolo, property manager of Mowana Properties, said the reason for hosting the event at the plaza is that the plaza is in a community, and them giving back creates a loyal relationship with the customer.
“We invited one high school and two primary schools to donate school shoes to, we also served them lunch.
“Debonairs Pizza was also present to educate people about packing a lunch box, as well as bank entities that educated people on how to use money wisely.
“To add more spice, we had personalities from SABC 1’s drama Skeem Saam such as Mogau “Mapitsi” Motlhatswi and Mlungisi ‘Emkay’ Mathe, alongside Dj Ganyani on the decks.”
Zweli Mabaso, asset manager, said they are basically saying ‘thank you’ to the community of Tembisa for their endless support year in and year out.
“We are proud of the community that we operate in and in return we have to show them how grateful we are of their support and give back a certain portion where possible.
“We are saying we can be a solution to someone’s problem within the community directly or indirectly, hence we partnered with Philly’s Games. We are into sponsoring pageants as well.
“We brought other stakeholders who liked the idea to partner with us in sharing the love with our community members and future leaders of this country.”
Dinah Jacobs, Masiqhakaze Secondary School teacher, said they are very proud to be recognised and supported as all children are from different backgrounds.
“We deal with kids from child-headed families, unemployed parents or separated families. In most cases, they need more than shoes but in other circumstances they need the shoes more than anything,” said Jacobs.
Sarah Mahlangu, Umthabeka Primary School educator, said it means a lot that they are the lucky chosen school to receive the school shoes and come to the main show.
“Our kids really need these shoes and any help they could possibly get. We really thank Tembisa Plaza, the shoes will take our learners as far as to the next grade, depending on the care towards them.
“On behalf of all the schools, we really appreciate the support, we believe bigger things are still on our way,” said Mahlangu.
