Township finance workshop tour with Wiseman Makhubu

Ivory Park residents were offered a financial education session

Pronto Wyze hosted a finance workshop lead by Wiseman Makhubu at Ivory Park Youth Centre recently.

The workshop focuses on savings, budgeting and investing. The general public of Ivory Park and Tembisa was invited to attend, but surprisingly people from Katlehong also attended.

Makhubu said he felt people need to learn how to properly save and understand which investment platforms are available for them.

“It is high time we as the township people break this kind of living where one gets paid today and tomorrow they are broke.

“I want to show people how they can create things like unit trusts, tax-free saving accounts in stock investment and buying ETFs using merely just R2. I mean sometimes you buy groceries and pay with your card then find that something was on special and it’s cheaper by R2 or R5.

“That little change that remains in the card, one can transfer it to an investment account and it will gain compound interest, imagine if that can be a habit.”

Makhubu also said the most important thing is to upskill business people to manage their finances and keep their books clean and checked.

“The mindset of having to make debts to pay off debts has to evolve and people have to wisely use or control money in their circles. Students, working groups, and business people have the so-called pay cheque and could save a lot.”

George Masiya, on of the guests, said it shows that there is a high need for this kind of knowledge and people really need to listen.

“We came all the way from Katlehong and we will be also joining him at Alexandra because there is a high challenge in our communities.

“From business persons to individuals, we still fail to do a proper savings account. As business people we need to learn all of the strategies of saving cash for us to make profit and see progress in our businesses,” said Masiya.
