Eskom implements surprise stage 2 load shedding on Friday night

This is due to the loss of an additional four units, Eskom said on Friday evening.

Stage 2 load shedding has been implemented from 9pm on Friday night until 6am on Sunday morning.

Unplanned outages or breakdowns were at 11 427MW at 8pm on Friday evening, while planned maintenance was above 7 000MV.

Emergency reserves are currently being utilised to supplement  the shortage in capacity.

Kempton’s schedule for Friday and Saturday morning is:

Friday:

10.30am to midnight: Glen Marais, Allen Grove, Norkem Park, Birchleigh Extensions and Bonaero Park

Saturday:

Midnight to 3am: Bredell, Pomona, Glen Marais Extensions (49, 52, 89 & 98), Serengeti, Brentwood Park, Aston Manor, Nimrod Park, Parts of Kempton Park Ext 2 & Ext 4

2.30am to 5.30am: Kempton Park CBD, Kempton Park Extensions, Croydon, Cresslawn, Rhodesfield, Kelvin Estate and Esther Park

5am to 8am:Birchleigh, Birchleigh North, Glen Erasmia, Kaalfontein, Esselen Park and Esselen Park Extensions

7.30am to 10.30am: The 2014 schedule indicates geyser ripple control but the metro this week confirmed this is not applicable anymore – no further details available.
