Verification process well underway at Glen Marikana

The process, by the Department of Human Settlements, started on Monday. By Wednesday, over 1 000 shacks were registered.

The verification process at Glen Marikana Informal Settlement on Dann Road is well underway.

The process, run by the department of human settlements, started on Monday. By Wednesday, over 1 000 shacks were registered.

During the process, members from the department go to each shack to register the occupants and place them on a list. Those being registered have to produce their identity document before they can be registered.

Two forms are then signed and a copy is given to the occupant and another will remain with the department.

The resident has to keep the form safe and present it on relocation day. The form will be compared to the copy kept by the department to ensure the correct person is allocated the correct space.

Although the shacks at the settlement might have numbers, the metro workers also re-number the shacks to ensure all the shacks are accounted for.

Department employees also said they would be at the settlement on Saturday to accommodate those who might have been at work during the week.

Children will be registered separately.

Metro police were also present to ensure the process runs smoothly.
