Modiba on drive to help underprivileged learners at township schools

Local stakeholders donate to needy children from the community.

Kagiso Paul Modiba from Thembisa has been helping school learners by donating school uniforms to underprivileged children in the community.

He recently donated about 200 pairs of school shoes to different locations in Thembisa and Ivory Park. This initiative relies mostly on individual support and the support from events organised Modiba and his friends.

According to Modiba, it all started with organising an event called Intimate Soul Sessions alongside Vusi Mashego, Shakes Chopsta Mnisi and Lerato Maseko.

“On January 1, we had our first event at Hiding Place. And on January 4, we had another one at Red Horn, where we collected about 120 shoes. We have brand-new school uniforms that we bought and those that others brought to us.

“Before schools reopened on January 11, we also donated food parcels at Red Horn.”

The initiative to donate continues throughout the year. Through events, Modiba and his friends are able to raise funds to continue buying uniforms and school shoes.

Modiba added that they managed to identify some families within the community who were in need, while others were referred to them.

“We would like to thank Siphiwe Masango, owner of Red Horn, with the R3 000 donation he added to our cause. Various stakeholders, such as MSSJ Public group and taxi owners, also donated six pairs of shoes and food.

“For us, we just want to see a young child going to school and letting them know that besides their situation at home, there are angels looking after them outside.

“We just need extra helping hands from the community. It feels great to us knowing that we host events that benefit or have positive meaning to the lives of the young people in the community.”

The cause continues as they will be hosting another event on February 14 at Phosa’s Tavern at Letsiakarana Street. The event is called Intimate Soul on Valentines Day and entrance is free. Food and drinks will be sold at the venue.
