Security officers demand permanent positions

The security officers are accusing the City of unfair labour practices

More than 1 500 security officers from the City of Ekurhuleni, joined by members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), marched to the city council offices in Germiston on Friday to hand over a memorandum with a list of their grievances.

The security officers are accusing the City of unfair labour practices.

Speaking on behalf of the security officers, EFF and community leader in Thembisa, Winnie Mandela section, Sekepe Moremi, said his political organisation decided to be part of this march because they believed the municipality must consider insourcing security services.

“The EFF has been calling on government and municipalities to do away with tenders because the tendering system benefits a selected few, while the majority of our people remain in poverty.

“So, we are going to the council offices in support of these security officers. All they want is to be permanently absorbed by the system. Insourcing is the only way,” he said.
