Support Cansa Shavathon hosted by cancer survivor
The entrance fee is R100 for adults and R50 for children.
The annual Cansa Shavathon will see participants shaving or spraying their hair for all of those who have been affected by cancer.
A Birchleigh North resident, Amanda Rabosiwana, will join hands with Cansa in hosting a shavathon on Theuns Street in Birchleigh North on February 29.
Participants will give ‘hope’ to cancer survivors and their loved ones by showing solidarity with them in the fight against cancer as they stencil, spray or shave their hair.
The event will start at 10am.
The entrance fee is R100 for adults and R50 for children.
This breast cancer survivor said people should be taught about cancer. Understanding what cancer is, where it can be found and how to spot signs and symptoms is important.
“Even when cancer stripped me to zero, it could not take away my voice and my courage to fight. I came out a stronger person than I was before.
“The lesson I have learnt is that the psycho-social impact of cancer is vast. It touches the lives of everyone around you, even as far as your child’s classmates at school. Talking about cancer is never easy and you may feel concerned about saying the wrong thing. It can also be challenging to balance a person’s right to privacy with the need for others to know about their diagnosis, but it is wise to educate others about it,” said Rabosiwana.
