44-year-old murderer Dingaan Tonny Mabasa will spend his remaining days behind bars.
This comes shortly after he was found guilty on all four counts he was charged with, which included murder, possession of unlicensed firearm, possession of illegal ammunition and malicious damage to property by the Palm Ridge High Court.
He was sentenced last Friday by the same court to life imprisonment for murder.
Furthermore, Mabasa was given three years for possession of unlicensed firearm, three years for possession of ammunition and one year for malicious damage to property.
Mabasa was arrested by Thembisa-based detectives, following the murder of Alfred Lamola, a resident at Winnie Mandela Zone 10, on February 10, 2019.
According to the charge sheet, on the night of February 10, 2019, Lamola sent his son to go out and lock the gate as it was already late.
Lamola’s son found two men waiting at the gate. He went back to the house and told his father about the two men. The father instructed his son to let them in instead of waiting outside the gate, but they refused.
Lamola then went outside and told them he was locking the gate because they didn’t want to come in. The two men hurled insults and threatened him.
Mabasa then broke the fence and got into the yard. He shot Lamola and fled the scene. Lamola was rushed to hospital, where he was later certified dead.
A manhunt was launched and lead detective Sgt Malesela Moloantoa traced one of the suspects and arrested him.
The arrested suspect led the police to Giyani, Limpopo province, where his father, the other suspect, was hiding.
The father and son have been attending court on these four charges until last week where the Palm Ridge High Court found Lamola guilty. His son was acquitted on all four charges.
