Three metro police radios have been seized after the successful Operation Okae Molao campaign in Ekurhuleni North district stations on February 19 and numerous suspects have been arrested.
Eighteen illegal shebeens have been closed, with fines worth R27 000 and 46 traffic fines worth R25 900 were issued as well. Seventy-nine cases of assault, in which 27 of them were domestic violence-related, were opened.
Twenty-five suspects have been arrested for theft. Five other suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and nine illegal immigrants were arrested.
According to Ekurhuleni district communications officer Capt Sekgobela, other suspects were also arrested as well for cases that included fraud, business burglary, business robbery, rape, reckless and negligent driving.
“There are also those we have arrested for possession of stolen property, malicious damage to properties, culpable homicide, intimidation as well as crimen injuria,” explained Sekgobela.
Furthermore, she explained that the police were also able to seize petrol firearms, and 17 rounds of 19mm ammunition were also seized.
Sekgobela said that they seized a Toyota Hilux bakkie that was hijacked at Reitz in November 2000. It is alleged that it was stolen from a house that used to be used to sell drugs at Kingfisher street, Rabie Ridge. The suspect fled the scene upon noticing the presence of a police van.
“The police were also able to seize 14 used cartridge and 23 bags of drugs worth R230 000,” said Sekgobela.
