Glen Marikana residents turn to high court to halt relocation
Residents claim the metro did not comply with the court order issued by the High Court in November 2018.
It is the second week of the Glen Marikana informal settlement relocation to Putfontein but the move might come to a halt.
Glen Marikana residents turned to the South Gauteng High Court on Monday to obtain an interdict to halt the relocation process.
According to a Glen Marikana spokesperson the metro did not comply with the court order issued by the High Court in November 2018, according to which the City should supply basic services (water, sanitation and electricity). They also claim their children are being dumped at Putfontein far from their schools.
One of the residents told Express that most of the children from the settlement on Dann Road attend school in Thembisa and would have to travel an estimated 41km to school from Putfontein.
The matter is still being heard. More information will follow.
