MES Kempton Park is in the process of buying its property
MES was in the fortunate position to pay a deposit on their safe harbour for the homeless and aims to have it paid off within the next eight years
At the turn of a new decade, MES Kempton Park will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year.
Branch manager, Helena van Blerk, said: “We will celebrate our anniversary in August and we invite you to be a part of this glorious year of celebrating God’s faithfulness towards our branch.”
She said the Kempton branch was in the process of purchasing the property on Kempton Road from which they have served many inner city dwellers.
“Please pray for financial blessings and that our future plans for the expansion of the property will realise.”
MES was in the fortunate position to pay a deposit on their safe harbour for the homeless and aims to have it paid off within the next eight years. They also aim to expand the property.
“These plans include building our own hall, which will assist with conducting our spiritual outreaches that are growing on a weekly basis. This hall will further assist to implement self-generating income projects such as needlework classes,” Van Blerk explained.
Their GROW project is a job and life rehabilitation programme to assist and empower unemployed clients, hoping to get them back on their feet.
“Once we are able to offer needlework classes and harness that skill among our clients, MES would like to build a charity shop in which handmade products, in addition to many others, can be sold to generate income for our branch.”
Van Blerk said the decline of the economy has more people flocking to the Kempton Park branch.
“We see people coming from different regions in South Africa hoping to find employment in the industrial areas surrounding us.”
MES hopes that Kemptonians and business owners will join its journey to make a difference in the lives of people making use of the MES shelter and food scheme. They have R5 and R20 coupons for sale which grant someone a plate of food or overnight shelter.
The coupons are available at the branch and at Kaleideo Church on Fiskaal Street.
“We currently need volunteers to assist with our fundraising events, clothing bank and the counselling of our shelter clients.”
“I dedicate the following scripture, Jeremiah 29:11, to all our stakeholders: ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’
“Let us hold on to this promise and fix our eyes on God.”
