Bridge to employment programme launched at Tswelopele High

The objective of this programme is to offer learners opportunities in terms of career choices

National Institute Community Development and Management (NICDAM) launched the Tswelopele Secondary School’s Bridge to Employment programme at the Johnson & Johnson Offices in Midrand, on February 15.

NICDAM partnered with Johnson & Johnson and FHI360.

This is a global programme aimed at 14-17-year-old learners.

The FHI360 (Washington) supports the programme by building long-term partnerships among businesses, educators, parents and community groups.

This is only the second time in 20 years that this programme is rolled out in South Africa.

Refilwe Mtembu, NICDAM social media administrator, said the programme serves a cohort of approximately 60 Grade 10 learners and running for three years. It started on January 2020 and will run until December 2022.

“The objective of this programme is to offer these learners opportunities in terms of career choices and teaching them about a range of careers in the healthcare and science sectors. It also assists them in developing skills that are essential in any career they may choose.

“Most programme activities will take place at the school, Johnson & Johnson and at NICDAM,” said Mtembu.
