Kempton Park SPCA gets second water tank
Kempton Park SPCA will be able to save on water costs and use rain water effectively
Due to the generosity of Burgees Plumbing Services, animals at Kempton Park SPCA will be well-hydrated during water shortages.
The plumbing company donated a 10 000-litre JoJo tank to the society.
“We had a number of water shortages last year, which put a lot of strain on the animals. We put a poster about our need for a JoJo tank on Facebook and someone shared it on a community group. It mentioned that if 63 people donated R100 each it would be enough to get the tank,” said Kira Sparrow, manager at Kempton Park SPCA.
“People started donating money to the SPCA and somebody tagged a manager at Burgees Plumbing Services. They responded and asked us to write a letter.”
Kyle Tobias, business development manager at Burgees Plumbing Services, said the company’s marketing manager, Andrew Burgess, was tagged in the post on Facebook and they decided to organise the tank to assist the animals.

“The tank has a rain water harvesting system and in summer they will be able to use rain water, which will save on water costs. During winter we will adjust the rain aid valve to use a bit more municipal water,” said Tobias.
“Council water will be used as a back-up. This tank is an addition to the one they already have and now they have 20 000 litres, which is a good volume.”
Sparrow said having two tanks would come in handy.
“We need water for cleaning the kennels, keeping the dogs hydrated and flushing toilets for staff and clients that come in,” said Sparrow.
“Although we had a tank, if you go without water for two or three days like we normally experience, then it just doesn’t last. We needed a second tank to be safe and they have come to our rescue. They organised everything, including laying a foundation for the tank, installation, delivery and the tank itself, which we are truly grateful for. It is a significant donation.”
Tobias added that the installers, Wayde Pierrus and Bernado Wamba, volunteered to do the job.
“We are not paying Pierrus and Wamba for installation as they said they would donate their time and labour,” explained Tobias.
“We are happy that we could assist and hopefully more people can lend a hand and continue assisting the society.”
