REMINDER: Allendale Road to be closed for major rehabilitation
The road will be closed for three months for major rehabilitation.

From March 16 Allandale Road will be closed for three months for major rehabilitation.
The closure follows Gauteng MEC for public transport and roads infrastructure Jacob Mamabolo’s visit to inspect the road.
According to the MEC, the department had been maintaining the road from time to time, but due to underlying underground water the road continued to deteriorate.
The department decided to conduct tests and assessments which indicated there was water and rock formation underground, which affected the quality of the road.
“It is for this reason that we have decided to do a complete overhaul and rehabilitation of the road,” said Mamabolo.
During the road closure, work will include blasting.
“We are cognisant of the inconvenience that the closure will cause. However, the safety of road users remains a priority. We remain committed to providing cost-effective smart mobility, as this is a major road linking the M1 and other key main roads,” Mamabolo said.
Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes through Waterfall to the R55.
