Ex-convict warns Maphuta Secondary School boys

Baloyi was arrested at the age of 17, which is why the learners were interested in listening to his story

Former convict Juluka Baloyi and members of the Rabie Ridge SAPS visited Maphuta Secondary School to address crime and drugs on March 9.

Members from the Department of Community Safety, sector managers, the social crime prevention coordinator and communication also attended the event to address social issues with all the boys in Grade Eight to 11.

Former convict Juluka Baloyi addresses Maphuta Secondary School learners.

Rabie Ridge SAPS communications officer Const Jacob Nhlongo said Baloyi condemned bullying, the use of drugs at school, bringing dangerous weapons to school, not wearing the proper uniform and gangsterism.

“Baloyi was arrested at the age of 17, which is why the learners were interested in listening to his story.

“His experience touched the learners which were present.

“Some even cried and vowed to do the wrong things at school and home. The tendency of children disappearing without telling their parents where they are going was also addressed,” said Nhlongo.

One of the learner saying he has grasped what speaker Juluka Baloyi had said.
