No end in sight for West Street decay
Businesses and property owners suffer because of the situation
Kempton Park CBD residents are concerned over an excess of litter on West Street.
Those living and visiting the street have described the road as disgusting and untidy. One of the residents on West Street, Gert Greyvensteyn, told Express the condition of the street was due to several reasons.
This includes mechanics fixing their cars on the sidewalks, leaving the street covered with oil and creating a health hazard, and that damaged vehicles parked on the pavement and street obstructed traffic.

It also includes residents throwing their rubbish in stacked dustbins, street vendors intentionally dumping waste on the street, and the homeless and drug addicts sleeping and defecating in the road.
Greyvensteyn, who is also a trustee of Lindrene Centre, a block flats in West Street, stressed that the street was a cause for concern for the residents.
“We are losing business because residents who invested in the block of flats are losing value on their property and potential tenants do not want to dwell in an unpleasant condition.
“The street is used for wrong reasons. We plead with the municipality to investigate the matter and also work on cleaning the streets more frequently and increase the services of the department of waste,” said Greyvensteyn.
The municipality did not reply to Kempton Express’ questions at the time of going to print.
