A 51-year-old man remains behind bars after his arrest at OR Tambo International Airport following the discovery of drugs hidden on his body.
Col Katlego Mogale, police spokesperson, said Wynand Harmse was arrested by members of Hawks SANEB Gauteng for possession of drugs with an estimated street value of R300 000.
The SANEB members followed up information about a drug courier at OR Tambo International Airport, who was about to fly out to Hong Kong.
“Harmse was stopped after granting one of the members permission to search his luggage and also do a body search,” said Mogale.
His luggage did not contain any illegal substances, but upon conducting the body search, a black plastic containing 1kg of cocaine was discovered concealed beneath a black corset around his waist.
The cocaine was confiscated. He has since appeared in Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court for dealing in drugs and his case was postponed to May 13 for a formal bail application and further investigations.
He remains in custody.
