Covid 19: Thembisa pastors meet to discuss Good Friday services
Churches close down and take precautions for Sunday services
A pastors stakeholders meeting was held at Thembisa South Police Station on March 18 to discuss the impact of coronavirus, and how to contain its spread during the upcoming Easter weekend.
The meeting was organised by the chairperson of Faith-Based Organisation (FBO) Bishop Michael Mtshali, Viki Tshabalala of the community policing forum (CPF) and Apostle Siboniso Ngobese.
“We want to plead with pastors to take precautions as President [Cyril Ramaphosa] stated in his speech,” explained Mtshali.
“As Faith-Based Organisation, we represent churches, and we came together to discuss a way forward regarding the safety measures to be taken during the Easter weekend and local Sunday services.

“We agreed that sanitisers and soap should be available in churches so that they could be used by by every person who attends the services,” he said.
He said various churches were forced to cancel their services because of the president’s call to limit to 100 the number of people attending any religious services.
“Another important point we discussed included encouraging our children to keep indoors,” explained Mtshali.
He added they respected the recommendations made by the president in his speech to contain the virus.
“We as pastors and bishops discussed this issue. We say people should follow all precautions to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
“Many pastors in the FBO have agreed to postpone the upcoming Good Friday conference in Thembisa,” said Mtshali.
